What you get

One product, fitted to your patio.

A retractable patio screen on a residential backyard is a custom-fit Talius system that bolts to the soffit, beam, or pergola overhead. The screen drops on a track when you need it, retracts into a slim aluminum cassette when you don't. Single-pane Fly Screens run up to 8.2 feet wide, multi-panel runs reach 16.4 feet on a single linked system.

Most residential installs run motorized with a wall switch and a handheld remote. Smart-home pairing through Somfy TaHoma is optional and adds Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit control. Manual hand-crank versions fit smaller openings, side doors, and budget-conscious installs where the motor isn't worth the upgrade.

The mesh comes in standard insect, no-see-um, and four solar weave densities. Pick by what you're solving for: bugs, sun glare, or both. Same hardware, different mesh, picked at order time. Frame colours: 5 stock options plus full custom RAL match if you want it to disappear into the trim.

What sets residential apart

Four reasons homeowners go retractable.

Use the patio at sunset

Mosquito hour is exactly when the patio is most pleasant. The screen turns the worst bug window into the best outdoor time of day.

Keeps the open-air option

When conditions are calm, the screen retracts cleanly out of sight. You don't lose the open patio you built, you just get the option to enclose it.

Custom-fit, no compromises

We measure on-site and build to your specific opening. Square or angled cuts, soffit mounts or beam mounts, all handled at fabrication.

10-year warranty

Talius covers the screen, motor, mesh, and aluminum frame for 10 years on residential installs. Real warranty, not a marketing line.

Common residential applications

Backyards, porches, and outdoor rooms.

The most common residential install is the covered patio or back porch on a single-family home. A 12 to 16 foot opening with motorized retractable screens running across the back, sometimes with a side panel on the prevailing-wind direction. Buyers in Ontario typically run insect mesh on the open side and solar mesh on the west-facing wall to handle both bugs and afternoon glare.

Second-story balconies, three-season sunrooms with retractable screens replacing fixed glass, pool cabanas, and pergola-covered outdoor kitchens are all standard residential applications. The pergola install is the trickiest because the upper mounting needs a structural beam, but a competent install crew handles it on the same site visit.

  • Covered backyard patios under a roof or pergola
  • Three-season sunrooms (replacing fixed glass with retractable mesh)
  • Second-story balconies and elevated decks (with cover)
  • Pool cabanas and outdoor kitchens
  • Side-of-house porches and entry covers
  • Garage door openings (some installs use the same product)

Where residential fits best

Three scenarios homeowners pick retractable.

Existing covered patio

If you already have a covered patio that gets used a few weekends a year, a retractable screen turns it into the most-used room of the house from May through October.

New build with planned outdoor living

Specing the screen during the patio build saves rework. The covered structure gets sized to fit the screen rails, the wiring goes in during framing, and the install lands the day the deck finishes.

Three-season sunroom retrofit

Replacing fixed glass walls with retractable screens converts a sunroom into a flex-use porch. Open in summer, screened in fall, sealed when needed.

What residential costs

Custom-fit pricing, honest ranges.

A residential retractable patio screen is a custom build, so the price scales with the spec. A small manual install on a single side opening sits at the entry end of the range. A wide motorized build with multiple openings, smart-home pairing, and a custom RAL frame colour sits at the top. Most Ontario homeowners land somewhere in the middle. The only firm number is the written quote on your specific opening, which we send within a business day of the site visit.

  • Opening width and number of openings
  • Single pane vs multi-panel linked runs
  • Manual hand-crank vs motorized
  • Mesh choice (no-see-um, standard insect, or solar)
  • Smart-home pairing (TaHoma, Alexa, Google, HomeKit)
  • Frame colour (5 stock or custom RAL match)
  • Install complexity (drive distance, soffit access, masonry mounts)
