What you get

Single-pane up to 19'2", multi-pane beyond.

The Talius Habitat solar shade is engineered specifically for wide solar coverage. A single Habitat unit runs up to 19 feet 2 inches wide by 14 feet tall on one motor, which is roughly 268 square feet of coverage. That's the widest single-pane retractable shade in the Talius line and one of the widest available in the Canadian market.

Most residential west-facing decks fit on a single Habitat unit because they're under 18 feet across. Commercial openings, restaurant terraces, and very wide residential outdoor rooms split into multi-pane linked runs. Each linked unit has its own motor and mesh, but they deploy and retract together from one switch.

The track is the same 100 mph zip-lock system across all opening widths. The mesh comes in the same four density tiers (55%, 90%, 95%, 99% blockage). The motor is the same Somfy tubular drive sized to the opening at fabrication. The 10-year Talius warranty applies across single-pane and multi-pane installs.

What sets wide-span solar shades apart

Four reasons buyers go with the Habitat product.

19'2" single-pane reach

Most residential west-facing decks fit on one motor. No multi-pane linkage needed, no visible joins, one continuous mesh across the opening.

Single-switch operation

On multi-pane installs, all linked units drop together from one switch. No coordinating multiple controls, no per-unit timing.

100 mph wind rating

Zip-lock track holds the mesh sealed under storms. Wind-sensor add-on handles auto-retract on lakefront and rooftop installs.

Sun-sensor scaling

Sun sensor pairs to the same controller whether the install is single-pane or multi-pane. The whole system drops on the same threshold.

Common wide-span applications

Where wide solar shades earn their place.

The most common wide-span install is the west-facing deck on a modern home with a wide back wall. A 14 to 18 foot opening fits on a single Habitat unit, drops on a sun sensor at 4 PM glare, and retracts at sunset. The whole afternoon glare problem solves itself without you watching the weather.

Restaurant patio terraces are the second common case, typically running 16 to 30 feet across the patio frontage. Multi-pane linked runs cover the full opening, sun-sensor automation drops the mesh on the bright side, and wind-sensor auto-retract protects the install through Ontario summer storms.

  • Wide residential west-facing decks (12 to 18 feet)
  • Pool patios with western afternoon exposure
  • Restaurant patio terraces (commercial multi-pane)
  • Hotel pool decks and rooftop bars
  • Pergola-enclosed outdoor kitchens with western sun
  • Three-season sunrooms with linked retractable solar walls

Where wide-span fits best

Three scenarios wide solar earns the spec.

Wide residential west walls

Modern homes with 14 to 18 foot back walls fit on a single Habitat unit. One motor, one continuous mesh, no visible linkage.

Pergola enclosures

Pergolas without solid walls turn into shaded outdoor rooms with wide-span solar shades. Pergola structure provides the mounting, shades fill the open sides on demand.

Restaurant patio frontages

Multi-pane linked runs cover 16 to 30 feet of restaurant patio. Sun sensor and wind sensor handle deployment and retraction without staff attention.

What wide-span installs cost

Multi-pane scales, but not linearly.

A wide-span solar shade scales by linear feet of opening rather than by linked unit count. The Habitat product gets a known premium over a smaller-pane install of the same width because of the engineering for wide single-pane reach, but the per-foot cost drops as the opening gets wider because shared overhead spreads across more mesh surface. Most Ontario wide-span installs land well into five figures total. We send a written quote on your specific opening within one business day of the site visit.

  • Total linear feet of opening
  • Single-pane up to 19'2" or multi-pane linked runs
  • Mesh density across each panel (55%, 90%, 95%, 99%)

  • Smart-home pairing through TaHoma
  • Custom RAL frame colour to match trim
